Vijayawada civic body needs 200 acres to construct 70,000 affordable homes

VIJAYAWADA: Obtaining land for the affordable housing project is demonstrating to be a huge objection for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC). While it has previously zeroed in around 500 acres, the civic body requires to obtain 200 acres more extra to build 70,000 affordable homes in the city. However, tenants of nagara Panchayat encircling the city are not especially enthusiastic to retreat the land.
Revenue officials have begun establishing land reports and have discovered around 500 acres in Poramboku and have allocated lands at Jakkampudi and Kothuru Tadepalli village boundaries. Administrators said that they have to obtain around 200 acres of land from these villages to build the proposed mega township.

However, villagers, particularly those from Kothuru Tadepalli, actively resist the move. “We are very pleased that our area is growing into a megacity. The need for our lands has developed in previous times. But we are not willing to trust VMC and provide our precious lands. The state government hasn’t provided any compensatory land to those farmers who delivered their lands for the Jakkampudi colony. Officials should conclude a compensation bundle that will be satisfactory to the farmers. The government should not consume hills and destroy the ecosystem in the title of housing colonies,” said a farmer from Kothuru Tadepalli

The civic body which had originally dressed a list of around 60,000 beneficiaries are viewing to construct around 70,000 affordable houses in the city.
