VUDA Visakhapatnam plot case – CBI inquires
The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) had auctioned 21 plots in the year 2001, out of the land which was reserved for construction of a community centre.
The auction was challenged in the High Court by the then president of the Sri Balaji Park Residents Welfare Association. The court called the act of VUDA as illegal and ordered that the VUDA Vice Chairman has to maintain status quo on the said land.
Later VUDA took the case to the Supreme Court which supported the orders of the High Court.
After this move, the then VUDA Vice Chairman approved a proposal in 2009 for allotment of six plots in favor of five persons and a private company, violating the High Court order.
Now in 2012, the High Court has set CBI to take up the enquiry regarding the allotment of plots by VUDA.
