PMCPune- In order to address the water supply problems due to the water scarcity, the PMC has planned a ward-level water management system. This initiative will be discussed with all the political parties in a series of meetings.

According to a senior official from the water management department, although there have not been major water management issues, few issues are there which are seldom addressed at the general body meetings. However, solving these problems is very important and owing to this the administration had decided to initiate special meetings at ward level.

One of the first such meetings was held last week consisting of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena workers discussing the water supply issues within their wards. Issues like low pressure, broken water taps and leakage were discussed in the meeting.

He further stated that the next meeting will be held in the coming week along with the Shiv Sena followed by the BJP. Meetings will also be held with the NCP leaders and the civic officials followed by the Congress party. These meetings will discuss issues about plan of action to resolve the ward-specific problems. The development was confirmed by the head of the water department.

Also the MNS leader in the PMC quoted that their corporators are worried about the poor water supply within their areas.  They further focused on issues like mismanagement of water supply and lack of coordination between officials. Last year in March 2012, the city received about 1,000 million litres per day (MLD) water from the reservoirs followed by an increase in the water supply by 1,100 MLD after the monsoon. Also, the water shortage was reduced from 20 percent to 10 percent. at present, the PMC is in a good state to provide water to all the areas everyday.
