Water crisis in Gurgaon
The residents of Gurgaon are facing water crisis. To avoid people from wasting potable water, the authorities have decided to act tough.
Last month the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) has fined 12,000 people for wasting potable water.
The defaulters were penalized for using potable water to wash cars, terraces and maintain green belt areas.
The city is facing a shortage of 20 million gallons of water per day. The authority has said that if residents stop wasting water, the shortage can be easily compensated.
The authorities are conducting surprise checking to any residential or commercial unit for wasting potable water. People are fined R200 for the first offense, and the fine can go up to Rs.5,000.
In severe cases, the authorities may also disconnect the water connection. While residents of apartments in Gurgaon Sectors 51 to 57 rely on groundwater, people in other parts of the city depend on supply provided by HUDA.
