No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Dec 03, 2014

Trains would soon run at 130 kmph on the high speed corridor. This dream would turn into a reality after getting Commissioner of Railway Safety’s clearance!

As soon as safety clearance is received by the Western Railways, the trains are all set to run at a high speed of 130 kmph on the high speed corridor. This clearance will be given by the Commissioner of Railway Safety. If this clearance is received, the travel time will shorten by minimum half an hour. The General Manager, Western Railway, Mr Hemant Kumar said that successful trials have already been carried out by the Western Railways for running trains at 130 kmph on the corridor. As soon as the clearance is received from the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the trains will be allowed to run at this high speed. Travel time will be reduced by 30 minutes. This statement was given by Mr Kumar when he was attending Western Railways’ Bharat Scouts & Guides’s state rally as the Chief Guest. This rally was organized at Madhav Rao Stadium in Vadodara.

Mr Kumar also submitted details regarding Rs 1100 crore speed improvement project submission for approval to the Railway Board. Western Railway is planning under this project an increase in the speed of some chosen trains to as high as 160 kmph on the corridor. In order to make this possible, certain step would have to be taken up by the Western Railways. Some of these steps are bringing a marked improvement in the present situation of the railway tracks, vulnerable areas to be barricaded and regulation of the overhead equipments among others.

According to Mr Kumar, Western Railways also aim at decreasing time of travel between Ahmedabad and Mumbai by minimum two hours. To cover the 493 km distance between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, regular trains takes 7-8 hours and if safety clearance is received, this travelling time will be reduced by minimum 2 hours which is quite substantial. The complete exercise would take just a year’s time after receiving approval from the Railway Board. The task of bringing about improvements in the infrastructure on the high speed corridor between Ahmedabad and Mumbai would take 5-6 months. The task would be completed in two phases and when done, it will be a feather in the cap for the Western Railways.
