100 smart cities identified to become a reality soon
Modi’s election manifesto talked about improving the infrastructure of the country and reduce the load of the Metros and develop Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. Finally the time has come to take some action on that agenda.
Government is planning to set up 100 smart cities across the country that will provide all modern amenities, education and employment opportunities. The Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu said the project of 100 smart cities is in conceptualising stage and details are being worked out through discussions with all the stakeholders, including the state governments.
Naidu mentioned that the cities are yet to be identified however most of them will be the twin cities close to a big city so that there is a better co-ordination between both the cities and the development takes shape fast.
The Minister said education, employment and entertainment are considered to be the key factors, which forced people to migrate from rural areas to the urban centres. This has resulted in traffic woes, infrastructure problems, water problems, waste management problems as the cities are not equipped to take that kind of load. Hence if the load is distributed among other newly developed smart cities, then the country will witness a harmonious growth. The present disparity between the Urban and Rural areas can be lessened to an extent.
