1000-crore Rapid Metro Rail project hit a roadblock

Comments(2) Sub Category:Community,Municipality Posted On: Jul 20, 2011

The gated community National Media Centre (NMC) on the Gurgaon Expressway has moved the court seeking stay on the acquisition, also sought police protection. The land Huda was claiming to take control of from NMC was the property of the society in the revenue record.

“The matter has been moved in the division bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking stay immediately,” said Kulwant Singh, general secretary of NMC Cooperative House Building Society Limited. “If Huda wants the land, it should initiate the process of acquisition as per the act or the RMGL should come to us directly to buy this land and negotiate with us. We are not against the metro project, but want a proper procedure to be followed for the land handover,” he added.

NMC is a gated community spread across 21 acres near DLF Cybercity and has 190 dwelling units with top-notch media people, intellectuals and who’s who in the government circles. They have asked for stay on the acquisition, also sought police protection.

Hard pressed to meet its January 2013 deadline, the Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Limited (RMGL) has asked Huda to hand over the land at the earliest for starting the civil work there.

Huda administrator Nitin K Yadav said that his department was seeking legal opinion on the issue as, he said, NMC had lost legal battle in the court that had refused to grant stay on the transfer of the land which was a green belt. NMC is a gated community spread across 21 acres near DLF Cybercity and has 190 dwelling units with top-notch media people, intellectuals and who’s who in the government circles.

Huda officials said that the land in question was a green belt meant for laying public utilities and civic amenities.

The Rapid Metro will connect Delhi Metro Rail Corporation’s Sikanderpur Metro station with a loop of tracks of about 6.1 km inside DLF City.

Some residents, however, say the project will inconvenience them in the short term, only to bring long term relief in public transport.
