3 new SEZs proposed in state after two-year gap

After almost two years three new special economic zones (SEZs) have been planned in Gujarat, since several developers are dropping their proposals.

In principle consent to the proposals worth Rs 483 crore has been given by The Gujarat industry & mines department and will soon offer it to the Government of India’s SEZ Approval Board.

Projects in Detail

A sector specific FTWZ (free trade and warehousing zones) on 47 hectares of land at Vadinar in Khambhaliya taluka of Jamanagarchas been offered by Essar group-owned Vadinar Oil Terminal Limited with an investment of Rs 156 crore.

United Liner Agencies of India Pvt Ltd has projected an SEZ FTWZ at Bharapar in Gandhidham taluka of Kutch. The company campaigns development on 54.5 hectares of land with an investment of Rs 207 crore. The company has 29 hectares of land and has demanded more land from the state revenue department.

Intermarket (India) Pvt Ltd has made third proposal for a specific sector of Textile SEZ at Vatra block in Khambhat in Anand. The developer has planned to invest around Rs 120 crore. Half of the land has been captured by the promoter from required 50 hectares and negotiating for the remaining land from private owners.

A change of sector specific power sector to engineering sector has been proposed by Kutch-based OPG Power Gujarat Pvt Ltd and has also proposed to reduce the SEZ size from 104.72.24 hectares to 55.24 hectares.

City Gold Realities Pvt Ltd of Ahmadabad has also applied for identification of their IT/ITES SEZ proposed at Sanathal in Sanand on 10.51 hectares of land.

Also, N G Reality Pvt Ltd of Ahmadabad has also applied for identification of its 217-hectare engineering SEZ at Bavla and Sanand on the periphery of Ahmadabad.

Presently, there are 57 SEZs in Gujarat, of which three are functional SEZs before enactment of Act, 12 are notified and functional SEZs, 17 are notified SEZs, 11 are formally approved SEZ projects and 14 have in principle approval projects. Approximately eight SEZs have applied or got approval for reduction in size or sector change.

Projected investment by the developer as well as units in SEZs in Gujarat (May 2013) are Rs 31433.56 crore, planned employment is Rs 21.66 lakh and anticipated area is 36869 hectares.
