50 garbage free wards in Bangalore

No Comments Sub Category:Bangalore,Cities,Civic Issues Posted On: Feb 05, 2013

Dumping garbageThe civic body is planning to select 50 wards in the city for the pilot project where corporators, MLAs, corporate houses, NGOs, technology providers, service providers and residents would take the lead in segregating waste and transporting it to local decentralized waste recycling and processing units and making them zero-garbage areas.

The meeting proposed a venture capital, which will be coming from various corporates in the city to help the small business persons and traders to own solid waste management system.

The civic body decided to arrange bulk generators and small traders and businesses to work on reducing the quantity of garbage they generate.

The meeting searched for the possibility of waiving garbage cess for those who are successfully managing the waste generated and sanction plans for new apartments only if the solid waste management plan has been incorporated in the building plan.

If BBMP keeps their promises then the city might soon see 50 garbage free wards which will process the waste they generate within their jurisdiction.

The rest 148 wards will soon imitate these 50 wards. These wards will be identified on February 10 and on the same day, a programme will be conducted to make the residents aware about the pilot programme and their role in making it successful.

The BBMP is yet to come up with the final timeline for making the pilot programme functional and achieving the target.
