BBMP to weigh garbage
To find out the actual waste generated in the city, the Karnataka High Court ordered the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to make an arrangement to measure all garbage collected from the city.
The weighing of garbage should be conducted from 1st of February for 30 days and the weighing mechanism will be placed at various garbage dumping and disposal sites.
The High Court found that about 4,000 tonnes waste is generated in the city, which is a roughly estimated figure submitted by BBMP as actual data was not available in this regard.
The Karnataka Court ask BBMP for the actual quantum of garbage generated is an essential data based on which the authorities have to decide on requirement of processing units. The court also asked BBMP to submit the actual data before Court after completion of weighing process.
