Nation today remembered Mahatma Gandhi

At a function organized at Gandhi’s memorial in Rajghat President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh paid floral tributes. The nation fondly remembered Mahatma Gandhi on his 64th death anniversary.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (October 2, 1869 – January 30, 1948) needs no introduction. Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi also called Bapu and officially honoured as the Father of the Nation.He founded his doctrine of nonviolent protest to achieve political and social progress based upon ahimsa. Gandhi is often referred to as Mahatma Gandhi (Great Soul).

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Vice President Hamid Ansari, senior BJP leader L K Advani, Defence Minister A K Antony and people from different walks of life also paid tributes to the apostle of peace at his memorial. A gun salute was given and also observed a two-minutes silence in memory of the Father of the Nation to honour his contributions.
