Waste management should begin from apartments
The chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), AS Sadashivaiah suggested that micro or even nano systems of solid waste management should be implemented in the city. He says that the waste management should begin from apartments, restaurants and households by installing small-scale waste treatment plants in apartments.
He said that the system of scientifically processing garbage dumps had failed because of the enormous quantity of the garbage. Micro or Nano Systems of solid waste management should be implemented in the city. Talking about pollution of lakes in and around the city, he said that KSPCB’s observations had found that only eight of the 55 lakes had a relatively low level of pollution, the reason for which was the bad sanitation system in the city.
He said more and more students must take up projects and research which would encourage effective solid waste management and environment protection.
