Karnataka land bill to regularize unauthorised constructions

No Comments Sub Category:Uncategorized Posted On: Aug 06, 2012

The government has modified the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill–2012 to pass it.

The bill seeks to regularize unauthorised construction of houses on government land in areas other than cities and towns. The modification came after facing pressure from the opposition.

Opposition members had raised objection to a clause that provided for regularization of buildings with more than two floors and also on production of certificates related to structural safety and fire safety. They argued that such a provision would help only the rich and politically influential persons.

The government stated that the bill would ensure that only those who satisfy the eligibility criteria for getting Ashraya houses meant for the poor would be eligible to seek regularization and undue interference of the wealthy class would be minimized.
