Yesterday was the deadline day for LPG consumers to submit the documents. The department had set January 30 as the deadline, which was extended to February 9. It was further extended to February 19 and finally to February 28. At the launch of Belaku Yojana on Monday, power minister Shobha Karandlaje, said: “If documents haven’t been submitted by Monday, connections will be cut from Tuesday.” However, food & civil supplies and consumer affairs department secretary B A Harish Gowda said connections would not be disconnected immediately.

The department had instructed consumers with APL ration cards to furnish details of their APL card number, gas consumer number, electricity bill and RR number. Those who don’t have it had to furnish details of their LPG consumer number, RR number and a copy of the electricity bill.

“The data entry is 60%-70% complete. It’ll take a few more days to complete that. After that, the list of those who haven’t furnished the information will be published. Only then will the department direct agencies not to supply gas to those with illegal connections,” he said.

More than 80% consumers have already submitted their documents to gas agencies. B J Prakash, proprietor, KK Indane Enterprise in Cambridge Layout, said he hadn’t received any instructions from the department. “More than 80% of people have submitted the documents and we’ve sent them to the department. However, the department has not instructed us to disconnect LPG connections of those consumers who haven’t furnished details. We’ll have to wait to see what’s the next step,” he said.

The minister said 1 lakh people submitted their documents from Saturday to Monday. “We extended the deadline thrice and it won’t be extended further. If they haven’t submitted documents on Monday, that connection will be considered illegal,” Shobha said.
