Rainwater Harvesting A Compulsory Rule

No Comments Sub Category:Awareness,Community,Green Living Posted On: Mar 24, 2011

BWSSB Minister S Suresh Kumar officially announced that rainwater harvesting (RWH) is a compulsory rule and the 56,000 houses identified so far, will have to install them. He said the citizens must reduce their dependence on borewells as the groundwater table had depleted. Among the 100 borewells dug by the BWSSB in 2010, nearly 50 of them had already dried. Under no circumstances, the water distribution system will be privatized. Suggestions will be accepted for any project on controlling unaccountable water and leakage.

“The deadline for the installation of RWH will be announced shortly and if the residents failed to do so, the BWSSB will install them and will charge the consumer in their water bills,” he said.

One can call Karnataka State Council for Science and Technology on 2334 8848 from 9 am to 5 pm to know more about the Rainwater harvesting and its installation process. Rainwater harvesting (RWH) theme park has been inaugurated and it is located on 40th cross, 8th main, 5th block Jayanagar. Call 2665 3666 from 10 am to 5 pm for more details.

Save water, use judiciously and adopt rainwater harvesting. These primary slogans marked the World Water Day walkathon and programs organised by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bangalore Jalamandali Abhiyantarara Sangha on Tuesday.

A BWSSB official said the Water Board currently has 40 private tankers and will need another 40 to fulfil the water demands in the parched areas. To ensure water supply to those deprived of water connections, BWSSB had written to the Deputy Commissioners (DC) of Bangalore district to help them hire private water tankers to supply Cauvery water. Receiving an official letter from the BWSSB, Bangalore Urban district DC M K Aiyappa told that he still needs to explore the possibility of hiring private vehicles
