HUDA strives hard to popularise smart cards

Gurgaon- While the four months deadline for introducing the touch card technology at the Delhi-Gurgaon expressway toll plaza is approaching, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) administrator, in order to hype the system, has chosen to give perks for commuters using these smart cards.

The private concessionaire, Delhi-Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd (DGSCL) had signed an MoU with National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), on September 18, according to which the former has to implement the touch card technology at its own cost within 4 months time.

In a recent meeting of all stakeholders, police commissioner K K Sindhu had asked the concessionaire to introduce Rs 200 denomination smart card and provide higher validity as compared to Rs 500 minimum denomination and one-year validity.

HUDA administrator Praveen Kumar alleged that he has asked the concessionaire to look into various ways of popularising the smart cards. The DGSCL had also been asked by police to popularise the suggested ‘touch-and-go’ smart card among commuters and make them widely available at petrol pumps.

The DGSCL is no more charging money for issuing e-tags to commuters as mentioned in the MoU, where the concessionaire is not supposed to charge the cost/deposit.
