DMRC to build subway without causing traffic jam

No Comments Sub Category:Civic Issues,Delhi-NCR,Maintenance Posted On: Jan 21, 2013

constructionNew Delhi- With more and more developments taking place in the city, a subway will be constructed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) using the latest technology ‘box pushing’, which will maintain the traffic at the busy Pankha Road in West Delhi below an under-construction flyover.

The subway which will be constructed using the latest technology will be connected to the Dabri Mor Metro station running across the upcoming Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor. It will be right before the Dabri Mor circle on the left side of Pankha Road leading towards Sagarpur. However, both sides of the Pankha Road will have an entry to the Dabri Mor station.

The station for the subway will be constructed adjacent to the Janakpuri C2D area on DDA land. Localities like Sitapuri, Dabri Mor police station and Sagarpur on the other side of Pankha Road will be connected to the subway.

As per officials, the subway will measure about 9.77m in depth from road-level followed by an architectural landmark construction. The technology, which will be used to keep the traffic intact, will  not require the vertical excavation or large-scale digging.

Just below the subway will be the Metro tunnel at a depth of 17.05m. Another drain is expected to run through the subway on Pankha Road which measures about 75m long, 7m wide with a height of 3.5m.

The box pushing technology uses RCC boxes in segments which are cast and pushed under the road to make a tunnel. This eventually does not disrupt the traffic. It was said that the subway to be constructed will be in the unpaid area of the Metro Station and will help the non-metro commuters to commute through the busy Pankha Road. An estimate of about 20,000 commuters are expected to commute through this line when completed in 2016.

The tenders for the stations are received and evaluated and the authorities have ensured that this construction will  not cause any demolition to the public or private properties.
