Kochi metroKochi- As the project work of Kochi metro was handed over to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), it has invited tenders within few days of the formal announcement.

A high level meeting was arranged with all senior concerned authorities to decide the taker of Kochi Metro. Although the role of DMRC is small on papers but it has proved its true style of functioning.

Along with inviting tenders, DMRC is also supposed to handle design, tendering and supervision of Kochi Metro with advisor E M Sreedharan. DMRC will also not be responsible for any kind of scrutiny. But the  state convinced DMRC to include accountability clauses in terms of quality, safety and performance. With the invitation of tenders, the officials of DMRC have secured themselves from cost over-runs and hassles to members of the public.

Kochi Metro will be an elevated rail which will cover 25km distance from Alwaye to Petta with 22 stations. DMRC has invited tenders for building the elevated viaduct from Aluva up to the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kaloor and the 12 stations in the stretch. The architectural finishing of these stations woill be done.

These 12 stations are Aluva, Pulinchodu, Companypady, Ambattukavu, Muttom, Kalamassery, CUSAT, Pathadipalam, Edapally Junction, Changampuzha Park, Palarivattom and Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kaloor.

To save the time, DMRC has prepared the tender documents well in advance. Also separate tenders would be invited for the civil works in the international stadium-Pettah stretch. DMRC officials are planning to perform work in different fragments such that the project is completed within three years of time period.

The project can be completed within the time frame if the land and funds are handed on time from State government. For locating 22 metro stations, DMRC would require 40 hectares of land to build coach maintenance yard and for widening widen narrow roads to construct the viaduct.
