DLF-I residents protest on Gurgaon-Faridabad road
Gurgaon: A group of residents from block G and H of DLF Phase I, Silver Oaks and NMT group, on Wednesday morning, staged a protest on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road between Bristol and Kachra Chowk which blocked traffic creating a mess all around.
The protesters had put up rubber breakers during their protest on the road to break the traffic speed. They had even closed the entrance to the Qutab Plaza market complex.
Commuters were annoyed and confused leading to traffic jams. The police entered the scene to divert traffic and clear the stretch. The police registered an FIR against the residents for blocking the roads and disrupting traffic, confirmed DLF Phase I SHO Surender Phogat.
For a long time, the residents have been requesting for a proper crossing and walkway. Ever since the road has been widened, the residents of the surrounding apartments have been facing inconvenience crossing over to the nearby market and to even drive out of their homes as the road is fast-paced and not well planned for pedestrians or slow moving traffic.
The DLF-I residents had approached all concerned departments requesting to put up blinking traffic lights and streetlights on the stretch as there were residential apartments on both the sides of the road and therefore the chances of risk are high. They had also requested the authorities for two pedestrians crossings and speed breakers on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road as it was an urgent need.
HUDA administrator Praveen Kumar spoke to the protesters and assured them that speedy action will be taken to provide street lights.
However, a spokesperson of Reliance Infra alleged that the firm has already provided all necessary safety provisions on the Gurgaon-Faridabad road as mentioned in the agreement. He said that speed breakers are not needed in that location, even as per the specifications, as it may become more of safety hazards. If still something needs to be done, then it will be taken up with the PWD, he added.
