Many apartments in Puttaparthi now display sign boards stating flats are available with discounted price. Tourists and devotees attendance has dramatically fallen after Puttaparthi Sai Baba’s death resulting in economy taking a beating.
With less than three-hour drive from IT city Bangalore, flats in Puttaparthi was most sought after for foreigners and big businessmen, who preferred to stay for longer days in order to have interview and darshan of Satya Sai Baba.
The transformation of Puttaparthi, a tiny hamlet into a big town having several multi-storeyed buildings made this place a hub for real-estate activities. Land rate was Rs 800-1,000 per sq ft for an apartment inside the town has dipped to 40% after Baba’s death.
Several half constructed apartments and hotel s welcome the visitors. Developers are half-hearted whether to carry on further construction or wait till November 23, Baba’s birthday, the next big day after Guru Purnima in Puttaparthi.
