The extension of the Yellow line to Badli goes over rail tracks
The extension of the Yellow line to Badli, on the Jehangirpuri to HUDA City Centre corridor, will be one of the few Metro lines going over a railway line in the capital. The DMRC will construct a special bridge to stretch the Northern Railway tracks on the Delhi-Ambala route. DMRC will also construct two separate aerial tracks for this corridor.
Anuj Dayal, DMRC spokesman, has been saying that the challenging part of is the elevated viaduct of the line that will cross the Northern Railway tracks between Adarsh Nagar and Badli stations of the Northern Railway. Just before the Badli Mor Metro station, the DMRC alignment will cross the Northern Railway tracks just before Badli Mor Metro station. Thus, there has to be two distinct bridges for the “up” and “down” line on this route.
For the purpose, a 45m spread steel bridge will be constructed to permit crossing of railway and Metro tracks. This bridge will be on RCC piers and the piling work for the same has been completed. The pier construction is underway. Soffit, the bottom level of this steel bridge has been constructed to be more than 12m above the railway track. The girders have been fabricated and received.
A DMRC official says that once the clearance from authorities has been received, these steel girders will be launched by push method by means of winch machine. Steel trestles have been erected between piers which are supporting it temporarily. These trestles and piers have rails fixed over them. After lifting the girder, it is placed over the pier, before the spans where it is to be erected. After the completion of this step, the girder is then moved over the rails on rollers, using winch machines, till it is in position. RCC deck is then casted after lowering it over the piers.
The Badli Mor station, which will be constructed keeping Phase-IV in mind, will connect the Yellow line with the sanctioned RK Ashram-Mukundpur-Janakpuri (west) section. This project will connect the current Yellow line with line 7 (Mukundpur-Yamuna Vihar) and line 8 (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden).
Mr. Dayal, says, “The structures of the station are designed in a way that they will be able to take the load of two platforms which will cater to Phase-III and IV.” The first two floors of the station will be used for property development. The outer ring road will runs parallel to station. Mr. Dayal further added, “The Phase-IV platform will come up above the Phase-III one.” Mr. Dayal also says, the structure is also 40 percent ready.
