Small airports to be built in Kolhapur and Solhapur
The union minister of the state for civil aviation, G M Siddeshwara last Monday stated that the ministry has taken a decision to develop the Kolhapur airport as a “small airport” among the 50 locations that have identified along the country. This construction of new airports is being taken in the light of further development across the country in terms of basic requirements.
Presently the Kolhapur airport is rarely used except for some landings and take offs that is mostly by the state ministers and some few high profile business personnel. The process of setting up a fully fledged airport has been a long pending task for the various sectors of the city. The setting up of small airports in the cities will definitely be helpful both for the cities as well as for the aviation sector that has been running with deep trouble.
The civil aviation minister has also recognized that the proposed green field airport of Solhapur will be under the same category. The inclusion of the construction of Kolhapur and Solapur airports in the civil aviation ministry into potential small scale airports is being taken as a good move towards all the pending development procedures of the airports.
