Traffic cops Issue Deadline to Train Bus Drivers in Gurgaon
Residents in Gurgaon can finally feel that their kids are in safe hands as the traffic department has taken matters into their own hands as they failed to witness compliance by the school authorities to the court’s decree. Earlier Punjab and Haryana high court had ordered that school bus drivers should have proper training before they hit the road. The order was directed after it came to light that many errant drivers don’t even posses a license.
To see that the court’s order be observed strictly the traffic police has set a deadline of October 31 by which the school authorities have to get their drivers trained from a recognized training institute. The traffic police has said that drivers can obtain a driving certificate from the road safety knowledge center at the traffic department’s office. The center is managed by Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) and run by the Institute of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTR), Haryana. The certificate issued by the center is accepted by the licensing authority for the issuance of driving licenses.
The Traffic police has made it mandatory that school bus drivers should have a minimum of five years of driving experience before they are hired and they must have a valid driving license from a competent authority, since the job involves the lives of children.
Recently there was an accident involving a school bus in which two students had got injured. Probe into the accident revealed that the driver was found to be inexperienced and his driving license was also not valid as per the Motor Vehicles Act.
