Suncity Apartments residents gathered in their apartment complex on Sarjapur Road to get their issues across to the builder. The protest was against the builder’s alleged failure to provide the amenities that were promised. Their demands include construction of a boundary wall, publishing of audited accounts for the maintenance corpus and interest earned and that the builder hand over maintenance of the complex to the owners’ association.
The residents said the absence of a boundary wall had resulted in a lot of thefts occurring inside the complex and there was also a stray dog menace. Some 200 residents gathered in their apartment complex on Sarjapur Road to get their issues across to the builder – Corporate Leisure & Property Developers Pvt Ltd (CLPD).
“Even four years after we all moved in, the maintenance of the complex is being handled by the builder because he has a vested interest in it. He is using the complex to further his business interests,” said Kashinath, association secretary.
“Moreover, it has been seven years since the project started and till now we do not have a club house or a swimming pool, which were promised in the agreement,” said Ranjith Madhavan, an association member. The members submitted a memorandum of demands to the builder.
In his defence, builder Govindacharya said “When they approached me with their complaints, I submitted the necessary accounts. They have noted slight discrepancies, for which I have asked them to approach my accountants for clarifications.” On the issue of promised facilities, Govindacharya claimed no money was collected from the residents for providing these amenities. Before the sanction itself, he had relinquished to the BDA his rights to provide civic amenities.
He said if residents would prefer being in control of the administration of the apartments, he would be willing to hand over the responsibility if they submitted a letter with the signatures of all residents who wanted it. He felt this should be a majority opinion. “The swimming pool is in the process of being built, and is 80 per cent completed. The boundary wall had mostly been built, save for a small portion, which apparently could not be built due to opposition from the occupant of a neighboring property.” he said.
Residents of Suncity Apartments alleged the builder had taken Rs 1 lakh from each owner (the total amounting to Rs 12 crore) towards maintenance and upkeep of the complex and was now demanding Rs 25,000 more from each. They gathered in their apartment complex on Sarjapur Road to get their issues across to the builder. The protest was against the builder’s alleged failure to provide the frills that were promised, such as swimming pools and gyms, construction of a boundary wall, publishing of audited accounts for the maintenance corpus and interest earned and hand over maintenance of the complex to the association.
