The firing at Delhi’s Jama Masjid and a high alert in Mumbai has added to the woes of vehicle owners in the city. Following an emergency meeting on Sunday, Mumbai Traffic Police has ordered no-parking of vehicles within hundred meters of all major Ganpati pandals and two hundred meters of Lalbaugcha Raja. This will be effective till the final immersion day, which is September 22.
Now vehicle owners not only have to park their vehicles far away from the busy Ganpati mandals, but also have to prove that they stay in the vicinity so that the police do not tow away their vehicles. Vehicle owners are sticking innovative placards with the owner’s name and address on these parked vehicles so that the police do not tow away their vehicles.
Immersion days have always been a challenge for traffic police given the sheer number of people spilling onto the roads. And this year, with the heightened terror alert, they are in no position to take chances. But it is not going to be an easy ride as they also have to placate adamant vehicle owners who are in no mood to be inconvenienced.
