The Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that India plans to provide affordable electricity to all households in the next five years.
In the next five years, India is aiming to provide 24×7 electricity to all households in the country and affordable electricity, said the Prime Minister inaugurating an International Seminar on Energy Access organised by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and CII.
He also said that the government is taking steps to provide cooking gas to all rural households.
Currently, 12 per cent of about 190 million rural households use LPG to meet their cooking needs.
The government was working on a mechanism to provide subsidy to targeted individuals so that they can afford to have electricity and LPG, said the prime minister.
