Alstom India to bag new powergrid contract of 3,000 crore
Last year the country faced power shut down for more than 24 hours and to settle down the issue, Alstom India is introducing 10 to 15 new projects to strengthen the existing power grids.
Alstom T&D India, the subsidiary of France-based Alstom Group is taking care of the building of the new projects and the first tender for the exercise is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2013-14.
Rathin Basu, Country President and Managing Director, Alstom T&D India said that Alstom T&D India is trying to bag this project for better business opportunity in India with a nearly Rs 3,000 crore offer. Alstom T&D is one of the best in power transmission business.
PowerGrids, that handle the whole nationwide network of five electricity grids and load dispatch centres, is targeting to stabilise and improve the existing power grid system in northern and central India.
July last year, the Northern, Eastern and North-Eastern Grids failed and more than half-of-the country’s 1.2 billion population had to survive in darkness for hours. Now the state is gearing up and looking forward to upgrade the electricity distribution and also revenue generation routers for the companies dealing in the transmission business.
Few states like Bihar and Odisha have already entered the memorandum of understanding (MoU), to undertake the project.
It is also being said by and official of Alstom T&D India, that until national grid is supported by technically improved sub transmission network it will not be stable.
Delhi also announced the launch of islanding scheme will come up with the tenders shortly and also project will be executed fast. Although Delhi government was not divulged any details about the project, only after the company gets the tender Alstom T&D India would formally make an announcement.
