AMC collects Rs 80 lakh in three days from property tax defaulters
Aurangabad- The latest drive initiated by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) against the tax defaulters in the city has proved to be fruitful as the authorities have collected an outstanding amount of Rs. 80 lakh in just three days.
They have targeted the big property owners who have been evading the property tax for quite a long time.
Starting from Monday to Wednesday, the Corporation gathered a due amount of Rs. 36 lakh, 15 lakh and 30 lakh respectively on each days. A special team was formed by the AMC to identify the large property owners with a total outstanding payment of Rs. 1 crore. The tax defaulters included property owners of large malls, mobile towers and commercial properties of Aurangabad city.
The properties of defaulters were seized by the AMC followed by the settling of 12 property owner’s disputes by the officials. The rest of the defaulters have agreed to pay the amount in another few days.
A large number of mobile towers were seized by the officials as the mobile service providers had not paid the property tax of about 15 lakh.
However, officials were able to collect only Rs. 31 crore till recently against the planned property tax target of Rs. 100 crore. The AMC has further appointed special teams to recover the outstanding amount from the citizens’ water bills.
