AP govt unveils comprehensive electronics policy
A wide-ranging electronics policy has recently been unveiled by the Andhra Pradesh government, in an evident effort to capture a large chunk of the fast-growing market for electronics in India.
The unveiling of the comprehensive electronics policy by the AP government comes against the backdrop of the fact that the demand for electronics is projected to soar to $400 billion by the year 2020.
The new electronics policy of the AP government has been outlined in GO MS No 16 which was released on September 9.
Outlining the new electronics policy, the AP government said that it has plans underway to set up 20 electronics manufacturing clusters (EMCs) in the next five-year period. In addition, the government also plans to make all possible efforts to attract up to Rs 30,000-crore investments during the period.
The government also envisages an Information Technology and Investment Region (ITIR) as well as a mega electronics hub in Vizag. Moreover, the government has also indicated that it plans to reserve two clusters in the Vizag region exclusively for the development of electronics hubs.
The new electronics policy also unveils the AP government’s plans to set up electronics bazaars at Vizag, Vijayawada and Tirupati, to enable these areas to act as platforms for electronic gadgets in the state. In addition, the policy states that an autonomous society – headquartered at Vizag – would be created as an ‘Empowered Mission for Electronics & IT Promotion.’
