Asaram Bapu charged over Rs 700-cr land grab case

1 Comment Sub Category:Delhi-NCR,Realty News Posted On: Jan 17, 2013

Asaram Bapu-744430Delhi- After the controversial remarks on the Delhi gang rape, Asaram Bapu is again in the news for another controversy. The self-styled godman has been alleged with Rs. 700-crore land grab case. The Serious Fraud Investigating Office has decided to prosecute him.

According to the SFIO,  Bapu has been a part of the 200 acres land grab in Ratlam (madhya Pradesh). The land is situated along the Delhi-Pune freight corridor in Madhya Pradesh and is owned by Jayant Vitamins Ltd. However, Asaram bapu and his son allegedly grabbed the land in the year 2000.

The notable player of the glucose and vitamin supply market, Jayant Vitamins was  earlier in 2004 de-listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange for non-payment of the listing fees.

There were  no complaints from the company against Asaram Bapu but a company shareholder brought the scam into light by raising an issue of the mismanagement of JVL’s properties. Owing to this complaint, the SFIO has been looking in to the matter since 2010.

As per the Indian Penal Code and the Companies Act of 1956 , the SFIO has sought prosecution on the godman and his son followed by the recommendation of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
