Bandh in Kolar
A bandh was called by the residents of Kolar, Chikballapur and Bangalore rural districts. The reason for the bandh was to find a permanent solution for the water problem for these districts.
The bandh was a success because of the full support from farmers, residents, political parties and organisations.
During bandh all the shops were closed and the public transports were off the road. Kolar theaters were also closed and the bandh was peaceful. Even the educational institutions were closed in support of the bandh. Commuters had to break their journey who had to pass through Kolar as there were no buses.
The Srinivaspur toll gate was closed with stones so that no vehicles could pass through and the national highway 4 was also shut down. The Kolar Bangalore Express was cancelled. “Rasta roko” took place in different villages along the route in NH 4, producing chaotic scenes. In Nelamangala around 3, 000 protesters had taken out a rally.
