Vidyamanyanagar, Bangalore lacks tarred roads and streetlights. There is no proper drainage facilities in the area. Residents have been denied of basic civic amenities. As there is a dearth of drinking water facilities, the residents end up paying Rs 300 to 400 for the water tank. The residents also complained neglected vacant sites. They say that unwanted weeds that grow there grow there have become a safe harbour for snakes and reptiles.

The matter was transferred to the BBMP six years ago. However, nothing has been done so far in the area. According to T Venkatraju, engineer-in-chief, BWSSB (Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board), “The work is under progress in old City Municipal Council (CMC) areas and the work order has been issued to the Vidyamanyanagar.” Meanwhile the engineer-in-chief was unable to set a date as to when the work will begin. “The work may start soon,” he said.

MS Venugopal, the president and KV Kullal, secretary of the Vidyamanyanagar Residents Welfare Association had appealed to the local corporator, TA Gayithree, MLA Shobha Karandlaje and other concerned authorities to take immediate action. However, according to the residents no action has been taken by any of the civic agencies.
