BBMP receives deadline and protest
Bangalore- On one side the villagers of Tumkur Zilla have decided to protest the decision of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to dump garbage there while on other side, residents of Madhur have set up their campaign to get BBMP stick to their promise of not dumping any garbage from February 2013.
Mandhur residents had several meetings with the concerned authorities and ministers which were filled of fake promises. Despite declared deadline, Family and Health Minister asked for extension of 15 days to stop dumping garbage. He defended by saying that alternative options are being planned in the course of time.
In the meantime, BBMP has marked 600 acres of land near Togarighatta village in Koratagere taluk of Tumkur district in order to make the site a landfill. But Tumkur Zilla Panchayat will soon send a letter to the state government to drop the plan and works that had been initiated.
Five to six private companies have got green signal from State Pollution Control Board and BBMP to build garbage processing unit. The tender for constructing garbage processing unit in Togarighatta has already been sent to the authority for approval.
In case the alternatives are not arranged, the BBMP commissioner will try his best to convince Mandhur villagers to accept waste from the city beyond February 1, 2013. He believes that this garbage crisis in Bangalore city will soon end by March 2013.
