BBMP Repaired Storm Water Drain giving sigh of Relief to Residents
Over 50,000 residents of Sarjapur Bangalore were affected due to overflow of water from the Storm Water Drain (SWD). According to residents, a leather making company had blocked the drain. Though BBMP had repaired the pipe and cleared the block, the company owner had blocked it again. Over 50,000 residents and nearby apartments such as SJR Redwoods, SJR Park Vista and Ambalipura Residency were affected by the problem.
According to residents of Sarjapur, owner of leather making company-Bulchee Leatherware had blocked the drain and claimed the ownership of land over which SWD has been built. Though BBMP had repaired the pipe and cleared the block, the company owner had blocked it again. The residents complained to the BBMP and corporator of Ward No 150 Babu Reddy.Within two or three days of complaints repair works started. Now BBMP has cleared the block and the foul smell has reduced to an extent.
Though clearing of SWD block has given sigh of relief to residents and issue of broken pipe lines has been solved, another problem still remains.
“The drainage water passes beneath the tennis court and flows through Mantri apartments into the Lakes. As a result, there is seeping of drainage water in Tennis court, creating a foul smell all around the place” said a resident.
Devaraju Joint Commissioner of BBMP (Mahadevpura Divison) said that issues will be solved with a few days.In the meanwhile there is an issue about a private land which would be solved either talking to them for a sloution or acquiring the land to give a temporary solution.
“BBMP started repair works next day of complaints and repaired the pipe lines and cleared the blockage” said Jagannath Patil, Manager of Trinity Acres and Woods.
