BBMP submits stats on garbage disposal, pourakarmikas’ salary

BBMPThe Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has submitted a report on the amount spent on garbage disposal, including salaries paid to pourakarmikas. They have spent Rs 25,708 lakhs on salaries of pourakarmikas, health inspectors and vehicles in the last four years, according to BBMP.

Last week, the High Court asked BBMP to furnish this information. At present, BBMP has 109 vehicles for garbage disposal and Rs 363.8 lakh was spent on them.

Regarding solid waste management cess, in 2012-2013, BBMP has collected Rs 3,855 lakhs as against Rs 93,710 lakh as property tax. Till December 31, 2012, as against the budgetary allocation of Rs 31,708 lakh. On solid waste management, BBMP has spent Rs 19,618 lakhs.

During the hearing of the garbage tender-related petitions, the then division bench headed by Justice N Kumar asked the BBMP to make a map showing the area where they are collecting garbage, where they are doing jointly and the areas outsourced.

A division bench headed by Justice DV Shylendra Kumar gave time till 11th of January for the government advocate to respond to a contempt petition filed by the state election commission (SEC) relating to Urban Local Bodies polls. The SEC claims that despite the High Court order, the state government has not given the final wardwise reservation list in respect of 209 ULBs whose term will start to expire from February first week onwards.

The Karnataka High Court directed BDA to file a fresh affidavit regarding the infrastructure provided for the functioning of the three-member committee to examine the allotment of 316 “G” category sites by the BDA. It also said that the BDA should furnish all records pertaining to the allotments and adjourned the matter to Jan 9.
