BBMP to review property tax details
BBMP is going to undertake a special drive for reviewing the details submitted by the property owners who have misused the Self-Assessment Scheme (SAS) system, particularly in relation to properties above 3,000 sq ft.
BBMP commissioner ordered the spacial team to complete the review process by end of March.
The Palike has formed 25 special team to investigate the measurement of both commercial and residential properties which are above 3,000 sq ft and revive the property tax for those properties.
He has instructed the teams to make the property owner pay tax according to the built-up area on the spot. BBMP is also planning to put penalty for those owners who were paying different amount than the original amount and if the tax defaulters continue to oppose the orders, the Palike will launch naming and shaming drive more violently. The civic body will flash the name and photographs of the tax defaulters on hoarding at major traffic intersections.
A higher official form BBMP had instructed joint commissioner to develop a special campaign to enable property owners to pay tax and obtain receipts at the central office before March 15 for those properties that are enjoying civic amenities/facilities and still not registered under property tax. This is being done as many people have requested the BBMP to register their names under this ‘B Khatha’, a separate register for such properties.
High-value property tax defaulters are now under the BBMP scanner. BBMP’s revenue inspectors along with members of the tax and finance department inspected two tech parks and a well-known mall near Whitefield and they recovered a huge unpaid tax amount of Rs 6 crore on the spot.
Along with that, Palike is going to set up 15 days Khata mela for the property owners who have their properties registered under ‘ B Khata’ as they want everyone enjoying property in Bangalore to come under the tax net.
