BBMP violates HC order
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has violated the Karnataka High Court’s order by granting permission to construct nine commercial complexes in Malleswaram.
An interim order passed in January, HC said, it will not be giving permission to reconstruct or redevelop residential areas near private homes in areas like Jayanagar, Malleswaram, Richmond Town and Vasanthnagar.
V Ramaswamy, a resident of Malleswaram, said the first planned area was Jayanagar, while Malleswaram was more of a residential area. However, the present situation is horrific as many homes are turning in to eateries and there is no difference between residential and commercial areas, he added.
Traffic chaos and medical emergencies are main the problems arising due to commercialization.
The HC has issued the order in response to a PIL filed against commercialization. But BBMP’s Town Planning Department ignored the order and granted permission for commercial projects.
