BBMP’s biased view on illegal buildings
While BBMP takes stringent action against EWS (economically weaker sections) quarters at Ejipura by demolishing shanties as its occupants had been living there illegally, the Palike and the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) have turned a blind eye towards several other cases in the city.
The Palika had not taken any action against some builders in the Bangalore city despite of having specific complaints with proof of illegal construction.
For example, a private building located on Sumangali Sevashrama Road had got approval for the building plan for 99 apartments in the year 2007, where as the Palike permitted construction in three blocks up to three floors. Some of the residents staying in the same complex have said that the builder have constructed flats on the fourth floor and had sold the flats at a lower cost to people who own flats in the same complex. Moreover the builder had constructed two additional illegal apartments.
One of the residents had already filed a complaint against the builder to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike but no action has been taken yet. The sale deeds obtained in 2010 tells that the owner of flat A -305 has purchased the flat for Rs 40.39 lakh whereas the illegal flat on the fourth floor, A-404, was sold for Rs 18 lakh. Palike official said that they had sent a notice to the builder.
Another complaint was raised regarding alleged violations by some builders in the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force cold storage. The company is allegedly have sold apartments to VIPs and other affluent persons and not to members of the society at whose behest the developer constructed the apartments.
