BMC Mumbai sinks Rs 64 Lakh in renovation of a half-acre park in Sion Mumbai. The shoddy work has already left much of the facilities unusable. Local corporator Upendra Doshi billed the BMC Rs 9.52 lakh for carpeting H B Shivdasani Udyan, the public park opposite SIES College, Sion (West), with red earth, revealed an RTI application.

The steep bill for beautification of a half-acre park in Sion cost the BMC Rs 64 lakh in 2008. But because of the shoddy work many facilities in the park remain unusable, prompting local residents to probe deeper. They came up with some shocking figures. 26.94L billed for fixing seats, waterpipes, improving internal pathway, etc. Most park benches are falling apart, the slides are rusted, swings don’t work.

9.52L spent on carpeting park with red earth, enough for 500 trucks of soil.Horticulturists say only 8 trucks would have been sufficient. 8.97L charged for repairs to compound wall on southern and western side. There’s only one wall. 8.99L, the cost of beautification of flower beds. Experts did not find any exotic plants to justify the bill 9.48L. for S S railing.
