BMC to maintain e-database of each Ganesh madal

Comments(3) Sub Category:Celebration Posted On: Aug 05, 2010

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is maintaining an e-database of all the Ganesh mandals to simplify the permission procedure. The e-database includes name of the mandal, location, size and permission period among other details. Electronic database of the Ganesh mandals simplifies the permission procedure and helps to book those mandals that flout norms.

The Ganesh festival begins on September 11 and BMC have started the process of online registration for Ganapati mandals on the BMC website and are maintaining e-database of each Ganesh madal. The BMC website enable to view details such as permission given for Ganpati Mandal, Permissiongiven for Sculptor in 2010 and option for online registration for Ganapati mandals.

“We have started the process of online registration for Ganpati mandals on the BMC website (www.mcgm.gov.in/irj/portal/anonymous/qlganeshutsav#) and are maintaining e-database of each Ganesh mandal. It will be easier for us to grant permission to mandals and ensure that no rules are flouted,” additional municipal commissioner Aseem Kumar Gupta said.

“Often, we find that mandals exceed their permissible space allotted to them. They also exceed the time limit and sound levels. A database on the list of permissions will help us nail errant mandals. This will also be put up online to ensure transparency,” added Gupta.

This year the BMC has waived off the security deposit taken from Ganpati mandals and has instead asked them to level up roads that are dug up to erect make shift platforms for the deity. If they fail to do so they will be denied permission next year.

“Each Ganpati mandal pays Rs 2,000 as security deposit for the damages that it may incur during the10-day festival. As the deposit amount has been waived off this year mandals have been asked to restore the road once the stage is dismantled. The BMC will check whether roads are repaired or not and ward offices will be asked to take their photographs. If they fail to do so they will be denied permission next year.” Gupta said.
