Bombay HC freezes tenders for pay and park scheme

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was busy alloting tenders for pay and park lots across the Mumbai city. Bombay high court (HC) meanwhile has freezed the process of tender upheld by BMC following a petition which is alleging the discrimination in payment norms. The new tender policy assigned 50% reservation for Mahila Bachat Gut, 25% for educated unemployed youth and 25% for the open category. This new tender policy was updated by municipal commissioner and improvement committee on April 3, 2010.

A bench of Justices PB Majmudar and Mridula Bhatkar has asked BMC to hold on for a time period in concern with the new tender policy. Replying back to the bench of justices, BMC advocate Vidya Gharpure informed saying, they would come up with a criteria to shortlist candidates within the reserved categories. The issue of pay and park scheme in the city is still rolling in the hands of HC and BMC and the outcome of the final decision will be a much awaited and challenging one. However, the petition apprehended that the new pay and park resolution will sure reap benefits for political organizations and the local councillors.
