Braj Parikrama route to be kept clear: NGT

The Braj Parikrama route, spans across the three states of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan. The National Green Tribunal has banned any new construction within the100 metres on both the sides of Braj Parikrama route and declared it as it as a ‘No Development Zone’.

The Braj Parikrama route spans across the Mathura district of Uttar Pradesh, part of Bharatpur district of Rajasthan and part of Palwal district of Haryana. A bench of Justice P Jyothimani directed the government of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan to take steps to preserve the Parikrama path and keep it sacred for the pilgrims.

There is a strict restraint on the growth of buildings on this path. The bench also stated that they have strictly directed the governments of UP, Haryana and Rajasthan to declare both sides of at least 100 metres, all along Braj Parikrama route as ‘No Development Zone’. No new ashrams, hotels, buildings and industrial units will be permitted except the shelters for pilgrims.

There are various hardships faced by pilgrims and various bodies have been demanding the that the shelters for pilgrims should be allowed to be constructed. The bench allowed the construction of shelters for devotees to protect them from rains, scorching sun and cold weather. The bench also directed the authorities to make arrangements for drinking water and medical facilities for them.
