BWSSB Bangalore expects smooth water supply
With Switch over from 66kv to 220kv power lines, BWSSB Bangalore expects there will be fewer issues with power, which is a major factor affecting smooth water supply to the city.
The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) decided to go back to 220kv power lines at its Tataguni station as it faced frequent disruptions after the 66kv lines failed when overloaded. The pumping stopped for more than six hours and took over three hours to resume.
BWSSB Bangalore on Tuesday shut down power to its pumping station in Tataguni from 10 am to 4 pm to switch over from 66kv to 220kv power lines. The disruption caused a shortage of over 250 million litres of water supply. “Information on the shutdown was publicised well in advance. People were prepared for it. We did not face any major issues,” a BWSSB engineer said.
Areas that were to receive water during these hours missed their quota for the day. These localities would have to wait till Thursday for their next supply cycle. The areas affected on Tuesday had received water only on Sunday. They had to cope without supply for three days at a stretch.
The board decided to go back to 220kv power lines at its Tataguni station as it faced frequent disruptions after the 66kv lines failed when overloaded. It had announced that the pumping station would be shut down from 10 am to 1 pm, but the work took slightly longer that expected, an engineer said.
However, the task was completed without any glitch. With this change, the water board expects there will be fewer issues with power, which is a major factor affecting smooth water supply to the city.
