Campa Resident Refuses to Give up flat on first day of BMC Countdown
Not a single resident gave up their flat keys to the BMC this Thursday. There were around 96 flat owners and all of them were told by the BMC to surrender the keys within 5 days starting from Thursday itself. It is surprising to see that no one handed over the keys despite knowing that the orders have arrived from the Supreme Court so that the task of possession and plan the demolition can be carried out effectively.
An early civic note was also handed over to the owners of the illegal flats so that they can hand over the keys by the 2nd of June. The first notice was delivered by hand and the second came by post. The BMC did not want to get into a battle like the previous year, so it decided not to get into any kind of altercations. If the residents do not give up the keys by the given date, the body will go ahead and file a contempt case. The Supreme Court had clearly said that the flats must be emptied by the 31st of May.
The residents on the other hand are debating. According to them, they would not like to use any kind of physical violence. They won’t agitate but will fight the system for sure. They want the country to see honest citizens who had paid their taxes, stamp duties and property taxes in order to buy their house are now being forced to leave their residents after 25 years.
