The Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit promised support to residents of Delhi Cantonment area who are feared of having their structures being demolished.

It was requested by Shiela that the  cantonment area should be given amnesty at a meeting  with the Union Minister of State for Defence M M Pallam Raju. Shiela also showed concerns towards her people and stated that her government has always taken humane approach to solve any issues.

It was assured by the Delhi government that these houses will be protected  despite them being constructed without proper sanctions. She stated that the amnesty given by the city and Union governments should be replicated in the Delhi Cantonment area.

She also said that the residents had erected their structures with their hard earned money and that they were unaware about the legalities and status of the land.
