Chennai Corporation Budget aims towards infra development

Infrastructral planChennai- The Chennai Corporation recently tabled its Budget for the year 2013-2014 and announced new grade separators and infrastructure projects like skywalk, flyovers etc. The new budget has given importance to urban development.

Four new flyovers have been planned on the basis of Chennai City Traffic and Transportation study carried out by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA). New grade separators will soon come up at Valluvarkottam, Virugam­bakkam and Madhya Kailash junctions.

The Chennai Corporation has planned to relay around 4,000 interior roads and particularly, more importance is given to the newly added areas of the city. It has planned to set up hospitals in Tiruvottiyur zone and primary healthcare centers in Madhavaram and Ambattur zones. It has allocated Rs 990.49 crore to improve bus route roads, laying of tar roads and cement concrete among other works.

A detail study of Multi Modal Transport Integration Study would be conducted throughout the financial year. This project is planned to provide increased connectivity within Chennai Metropolitan Area.

A amount of Rs 750 crore has been allotted to the Chennai metro rail project. The state also decided to start work on a legal wrangled project which aims to set highway on the lines of National Highway authority of India (NHAI).

Around Rs 1250 crore has been allocated towards various urban development works under the Chennai Mega City Development Mission and the Integrated Urban Development Mission. Around Rs 100 crore has been announced as special waste management fund for weak urban local bodies.

Corporation is also planning to start Pedestrian plazas in T. Nagar, Chepauk and Mylapore.This would support adjoining public modes of transportation along with better amenities to the pedestrians.

The corporation is planning to install solar roof top in all buildings of Chennai Corporation. They will promote the use of LED lights and would also carry out improvement works at several beaches and flyovers of the city.

Roads on 100 bus routes would get granite footpaths in three years and better supervision of waste management would be carried out by proposed geo-technology. Around 100 new parks will be developed along with improvement work of existing.

No fresh taxes have been imposed and there is no hike in any existing tax rate in the state’s Budget.
