Civic Agencies Leave Flat Residents In The Lurch
For more than three years now, the residents of eight posh apartment blocks on Ranka Colony Road in Bilekahalli Bangalore are managing with a narrow strip of mud road next to the dug-up area. Many of the apartments are vacant, only because there is no approach road. Thanks to BBMP suddenly changing its mind and stopping work on a project. The BBMP abandoned its ‘road over drain’ project more than 10 months ago. As the road is in bad shape, not just autodrivers, even school van drivers refuse to enter the road.
The road over drain project is half-done as one of the three contractors stopped the work as BBMP is yet to pay his pending bills. The box drain of 850 meters is designed to prevent flooding in areas such as Bommanahalli, Madiwala, JP Nagar, Bilekahalli and Kanakapura main road during the rainy season. But abandoning the project has led to storm water from Puttenahalli lake and surrounding areas getting mixed up with sewage water near Bilekahalli, and polluted water entering Madiwala lake. The stagnant sewage water has also led to mosquitoes breeding.
The road will turn out to be nonmotorable within three months, once BWSSB takes up work of laying 1200mm diameter pipes, which will be placed at a depth of five feet.
The BBMP abandons drain work and BBMP is yet to pay pending bills to one of the three contractors. For more than three years now, the residents on Ranka Colony Road in Bilekahalli are almost cut off from the main road and little wonder, it is an accident zone. The school Children have to walk all the way to the main road to catch their school van.
