Civic bodies baffled over re-development
A statement passed by the Municipal Commissioner Sitaram Kunte, last month about the re-development of about 300 proposed heritage structures has created confusion among the civic bodies, i.e. the Mumbai Heritage Conservation Committee (MHCC) and the state government.
It was said by the municipal commissioner that the re-development of the projects will continue uninterrupted due to the list being in the draft stage. However the MHCC sources and the state government feel that these structures require scrutiny from the heritage panel.
According to the Maharastra Regional Town and Planning (MRTP) Act of 1996, the re-development of heritage structures in the draft stage also need permissions from the Planning Authority followed by a scrutiny prior to the start.
In a meeting , it was stated by Kunte that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will officially release the list to the Urban Development Department next year.
