Coastal Areas in Kerala soon to have Sewerage Network and Water Supply Connection
The coastal areas of Kerala will soon be connected with sewerage network and water supply. This was announced by Minister for Transport V.S. Sivakumar, who was attending a meeting of ward officials and councillors of various departments in Thiruvanathapuram. The water supply scheme will come under the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) scheme which is a Rs 300 crore project and the sewerage project will be funded under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).The sewerage project is accounted to be a Rs.81.77-crore project.
In an effort to overhaul the civic amenities in the costal areas, the Minister announced that drastic steps will be taken to improve street lighting and water facilities by installing more public taps. He also urged the civic bodies to replace the degarding manholes. Sivakumar also said that the sewerage networking work in areas like Pazhanchira, Chakka, Kannanthura, Poonthura, Beemapally and Kadakampally will be delivered within a deadline.
