Coimbatore Corporation sets up drive to ensure 91% tax collection
Coimbatore- The Coimbatore municipal corporation has focused at achieving 91% tax collection from its 100 wards.
It is taking strict actions against property tax defaulters including cutting off water connections to ensure maximum property tax collection from taxpayers before due date.
In the preceding financial year, the civic body had achieved a high tax collection rate of 89%. For this year, as per records, the Corporation has till now collected around Rs 43 crore while the total tax to be collected is approximately Rs 102 crore. The drive is aimed at collecting the remaining tax of Rs 58 crore before March 31, 2013.
In this regard, the civic body has even severed water supply to a hotel on State Bank Road, near railway station for not clearing the property tax dues.
Recent statistics of tax collection reveal that 20 municipal wards in the west zone is leading the tax collection chart since 50 percent collection has already been achieved.
So far, the north zone has registered 45% tax collection while the central zone has ensured 44%. East zone has registered 34% collection while the South zone registered 30% collection, claimed the corporation officials.
